ShareLaw FAQ
ShareLaw is a resource-sharing project that enables the lending and borrowing of selected library materials among the students, faculty, and staff of the law schools of:
  • The George Washington University
  • The University of California, Berkeley
  • The University of Miami
  • The University of Texas
  • The University of Washington
  • Yale University
The ShareLaw catalog represents the combined catalogs of the member libraries and is updated daily.
Not all items in the ShareLaw catalog may be requested. Only those items showing a status of AVAILABLE may be requested for delivery to your library. For other items, check with your library's interlibrary loan office to inquire about availability from other sources.

Consult your local library's ShareLaw policies for additional information.

Faculty, currently enrolled students, and staff of member law schools are eligible to request items through ShareLaw. Contact your library's access services or circulation department if you have a question about your eligibility.

Select the ShareLaw link from your library's catalog to search for items unavailable through your local library.

Select the Place request from the browse screen or Request this item from the single record display to request the item.

Select the institution with which you are affiliated from the drop down list. Enter your name and other authenticating information.

Once your identity has been authenticated, your request will be forwarded to a lending library by ShareLaw. You will receive notification from your local library once the item is ready for pick-up.

ShareLaw items are generally delivered to your local library within two to four workings days from your request. Weekends and holidays may affect delivery times.
Login to your local catalog using the 'View Your Record' or 'My Account' option. Items with a status of 'RECV'D' are ready for pickup.
ShareLaw items are due 28 days from the date you received it from your local library.
You may renew an item twice for an additional 28 day loan, provided there are no other requests for the item pending. Renew items either through your local library's service desk or through the personal account feature on your local library catalog. Renewals are permitted within 7 days of the due date.
